A beautiful egret "posed" for me in the Florida Keys.  We have these elegant birds on the Chesapeake Bay, but I cannot get as close to them as I can in Florida...he made a great model and I painted in grasses that would make him at home anywhere.  This is a large watercolor that would become a focal point in your room.  Image size is 30" x 22".

God of Green and Butterfly Wings -- SOLD

Inspired by the beautiful poem "God of Green" by Joyce Carr Stedelbauer and the colorful swallowtails in my garden, I used a "pouring" watercolor technique to simulate a rainbow background in this painting.  A border design of leaves completes the design.  This painting won an award in the fall of 2001.  Image size is 21" x 29".

Tarpon on the Fly -- SOLD

Tarpon are popular with sports fishermen in the Florida Keys where I saw them “up close”!  I added the hand-tied fly in the painting and included the real hand-tied fly in a keyhole in the matting in the framed work.  A nice presentation for this colorful painting.  Image size is 15 ½” x 19 ½”.  Price on Request

Peace -- SOLD

As a member of the National League of American Pen Women, Chesapeake Bay Branch, I was asked to paint a watercolor that would be inspirational to a writer or poet to be used as a “seed” painting for our annual Art and Writing Competition that was held  April 12, 2002.  This is the painting I contributed to the competition and the two poets who were inspired by it won first and second place in writing awards!  Since 9/11, I have wanted to express my feelings in my artwork.  I thought of the idea of incorporating a Peace rose in a painting and combined it with the Earth and a stunning Chesapeake
sunset in the background – my vision of Peace on Earth.  I grew the beautiful rose in my garden.  Image size is 22" x 30".  Price on Request

The Orchid Tree -- SOLD

Orchids are one of my favorite flowers and although they do not grow in my Chesapeake garden I love to grow them indoors.  My reference photos for these colorful specimens were actually taken on a winter trip to Islamorada in the Florida Keys where this orchid "tree" was in bloom just outside the door to our cottage.  I waited until the sunlight was hitting the petals to take the photo I used for this painting.  At home in my Virginia studio, I designed the layout including a border of leaves for added interest.  Just completed in January 2002, the image size of this original watercolor is   22" x 30".  Price on request.
 

Transparent Butterflies

Beautiful butterflies are a delight to all age groups.  This 30" x 22" painting shows the butterflies becoming transparent as they flit from flower to flower and was inspired by a poem written by a friend and talented writer.  Price on request.
